Charles Tilly was born in Lombard(Illinois) on May 20,1929. His work was an effort to combine quantitative analysis and historical interpretetion.He is considered "the founding father of 21st-century sociology.
Dr. Tilly devoted a great part of his work researching the applicability of "methods" used by social science.For example, the use of numbers as testable hypotheses, and like Weber and Marx, explainning about the historical context of cause and effect extremely matter.
Tilly was interested in the process by which our societies run themselves.Another of his headline topics is why women still earn less than male-what Tilly called the "durable inequality". He said, "is that men organise the world of remunerative work. This result in what he called structural self-reproductivity".(The Guardian)
Tilly had a goal, to do sociology, political analysis and history at the same time, harmonize all three.
He tought at the University of Havard, the University of Toronto, the University of Michigan,the University of Delaware and finally the University of Columbia in 1996.
Dr. Tilly died on April 29, 2008.He was 78.
