It would be possible to postpone the new year after the European crisis?Unfortunately not.
I believe this link from The Economist (The World in 2012) is essential to decide the best strategy for the coming year.
Here in Canada, Stephen Harper does not seem to be able to confront the great challenges that the country will soon face, including a new immigration policy, drawing up an agenda with effective strategies to combat poverty not only domestically but overseas, and Canadians are waiting anxiously for the growth of the number of job offers. Provinces such as British Columbia and Quebec are paralyzed by the lack of effective investment for the creation of new jobs. According to Canadian experts, the Action Plan formulated by Stephen Harper and his ministers seem unsafe and inefficient just when the country needs to regain its place of central and decisive nation in the global issues.
Internally, immigration policy faces many challenges. The large number of immigrants coming from countries with little or no democratic tradition has contributed to the formation of "political ghettos", concerned with defending their own interests and little concerned with national problems.
Countries such as Brazil,Russia and China confront the hegemony in several Canadian field, even challenging the territorial Canadian sovereignty of the Arctic (Russia), a problem that must be faced as soon as possible. In regards to Brazil and China, "Ottawa" tries to make them allies even though its economy has already been exceeded by the second and may soon be exceeded by the first, despite the problems of inequality and income distribution faced by both.
Anyway, seen from above the Earth seems perfect. Happy 2012.
